MilSpouse Friday Fill-In #13
The future is always beginning now.
~Mark Strand, Reasons for Moving
First of all… don’t miss my flag giveaway… you can win a US flag or a flag of your service–it’s your choice! Check out the post below yesterday’s for more details.
(please feel free to use this!)
I love learning more about my fellow MilSpouse bloggers. So I created a weekly meme. Each week, I’ll post a list of questions on Thursday (so you can have your blog ready on Friday). Come back here on Friday (like today!) and enter your blog post into Mr. Linky below so others know who else participated and we can all visit other blogs. Please leave a comment too! And please feel free to use the button above!
(Please forgive me if I can’t get to visit everyone’s blogs the next few weeks. I am having a hard time accessing my own blog from the Army Internet!)
I was going to feature one question suggested by MFF participants each week, but since you all came up with such great questionthe other week, I’m going to have to do more than one a week! This week’s questions are:
1. How do you spend your deployment money, do you save, pay off bills or enjoy the extra money while it is there to buy the things you do not normally have? (from Troop Petrie)
Our deployments are short, so not a lot of time for saving or anything. However, we do save and put extra money into the savings account. We will also give ourselves a bit more spending money than normal.
2. If you could relive one occasion or moment, what would it be? (from Currently On Land)
It would be the first few months I met Huzzy. I mean, if you’ve read my how-we-met story, you know I don’t exactly remember our first few weeks together much. And then, after a couple of months… I was in love. That was the best feeling in the world. Still is.
3. What’s the worst job you ever had and if it was so bad why did you take it? (from Faith and Deploying)
Well, it was working at W@lMart. And I didn’t know it was so bad until after I was working there for six months. And it was more the department manager than anything. And minimum wage. Incidentally, I believe I have mentioned that I’m not allowed to work there ever again. Ha!
4. If you could play any character on TV, who would you be? (from Many Waters)
I would probably play Melissa from the new comedy Melissa and Joey. It seems like a hilarious time.
5. If you could become the world’s expert in something, what would it be? (from Army of Two)
I would be the world’s expert in making money. Because I’d have enough to not have to be worried about it and then I could be a philanthropist… which I’ve always wanted to do!
Please don’t forget to add your blog link to Mr. Linky below by clicking on it. But also if you are not participating in MilSpouse Friday Fill-In this week, please do not put your link on there… I will remove it. It is unfair to others who do participate.
MilSpouse Friday Fill-in #13: Questions for Tomorrow

I love learning more about my fellow MilSpouse bloggers! MilSpouse Friday Fill-in is taking off even better than I could have ever hoped. I learned so much about my fellow bloggers and can’t wait to learn more… and hopefully even MORE will join in as we go.
Here’s the skinny for newcomers about MilSpouse Friday Fill-ins (and when I say MilSpouse, I mean significant others, too!):

The Yummiest Roast Ever!
When baking, follow directions. When cooking, go by your own taste.
~Laiko Bahrs
This is the best, most juicy roast ever! And it’s absolutely easy to boot!
Ingredients
- A boneless beef chuck roast (whatever size will fit your crockpot)
- 2 cans cream of mushroom soup (I’ve used cream of celery and even cream of chicken in a pinch and it was fine!)
- 1 envelope Lipton’s Onion Mushroom Soup Mix
- 5 or 6 white potatoes, cut in large cubes
- A medium or large size package of baby carrots (depending on how many you want)
- Any other vegetables you might like. (I just use carrots and potatoes)
- Freshly cracked black pepper
Directions
- The first thing I do is put a Crockpot liner in (no cleanup!). If you do not have a liner, you’ll want to spray some olive oil or cooking spray along the bottom and sides of the Crockpot.
- Place the roast in the bottom of the CrockPot.
- Take envelope of Lipton’s Onion Mushroom Soup Mix and sprinkle the entire envelope evenly over the top of the roast.
- Spread both cans of Cream of Mushroom Soup evenly over the top of the roast (note: you can’t mess this up…it will all mix together eventually, so don’t worry if you can’t completely cover the roast).
- Cook on HIGH for at LEAST 3 hours (yes, that’s right, high).
- After 3 hours, throw the chopped potatoes and baby carrots directly into the CrockPot. Note: if I am cooking it for longer than six hours total, I don’t throw the veggies in until about 2 1/2 hours before serving… that way, they aren’t complete mush and have a bit of firmness left to them.
- Cover everything in the CrockPot with freshly cracked black pepper.
- Cook everything on HIGH for at LEAST 3 more hours (again, yes, high).
- Occasionally, you may want to check on the roast, spoon gravy on the top of the veggies, or add more pepper.
Enjoy!
A Patriot Day Giveaway
The whole inspiration of our life as a nation flows out from the waving folds of this banner.
~Author Unknown
It’s been nine years. I’m sure we can all pinpoint where we were when we heard about the Twin Towers being hit. And then the Pentagon. And then a crash in a Pennsylvania field. And, of course, the fall of the Twin Towers. I sure can.
I was in college. A resident assistant to freshmen girls. I remember the panic, the absolute feeling of vulnerability… that my great nation had actually been penetrated by an enemy–something that hadn’t been seen for two generations. Since Pearl Harbor. Though I was far away from what was happening, looking back, it made me grow up a bit. And I learned that we didn’t live in a peaceful, idyllic world.
I remember just after it happened, you couldn’t go anywhere without seeing houses upon houses proudly flying the American flag. Everyone did. I often wonder what happened to that… will it take another tragedy to make people patriotic again?
Today commemorates that day nine years ago. It was proclaimed Patriot Day by President Bush in 2002 and signed into law not too long after. And in honor of Patriot Day, I’m offering a giveaway, courtesy of CVS Flags. CVS Flags has graciously offered my readers a chance for one to win a 3×5 U.S. Flag or a Military Flag.
And you know what is extra awesome about CVS Flags? All their flags are made right here in America!
Overseas and thinking you can’t enter? You’re wrong… they ship to APO addresses, so join in the contest!
The contest will run from today through 11:59 p.m. PST on Friday, September 17, 2010.
You have several ways to enter the contest. First and foremost, you must leave a comment telling me which flag you’d choose and why. Once you leave a comment, you can also earn additional entries by:
- Become a follower of this blog and leave a comment letting me know you are.
- Write a blog post (with link to this post) about this contest and leave a comment linking back to your blog post.
- Tweet about it (with a link to this post) and leave a comment with your tweet URL. You can do this up to twice a day.
If you start today, that gives you 17 chances to win!
Okay, now for the rules:
- You must make a comment and tell me which flag you’d choose and why. If you win, you don’t necessarily have to stick to this choice, so don’t stress over it.
- For EVERY entry, you must add a new comment. If you answer #1 and tell me you are a blog follower in one comment, that will only count as one entry.
- The winner will be chosen by Random.org.
- I need to contact the winner somehow, so if you don’t leave a link to your blog, please leave an e-mail address! If I can’t contact you, I’ll be choosing someone else.
Good luck! Oh, and I should tell you that CVS Flags is kindly providing me with a flag of my own in return for this contest. I’m totally excited about receiving mine!
MilSpouse Friday Fill-In #12
In the opinion of the world, marriage ends all, as it does in a comedy. The truth is precisely the opposite: it begins all.
