MilSpouse Friday Fill-In #31

Now that it’s all over, what did you really do yesterday that’s worth mentioning?

I love learning more about my fellow MilSpouse bloggers. So I created a weekly meme. Each week, I’ll post a list of questions on Thursday (so you can have your blog ready on Friday). Come back here on Friday (like today!) and enter your blog post into Mr. Linky below so others know who else participated and we can all visit other blogs. Please leave a comment too! And please feel free to use the button above!

This week’s questions are:

1. Aside from no deployments, what is one thing you would want to make the MilSpouse life “perfect”?  submitted by Oh How Delightful

We don’t get the joy (and pain) of moving in Huzzy’s rate so we don’t get to experience different places, but that means we don’t have to leave our “home.” However, those around us who are our friends DO still move. So I think the one thing that would make it perfect (aside from deployments) would be being able to either move with our friends… or keep our friends here with us.

2. Just how many peppers did Peter Piper pick? submitted by Married into Army
It depends. If his wife is there to make sure he does it… I’m betting a whoooole lot.

3. If you could have any career in the world with nothing holding you back, what would you do? submitted by It’s My Party and I’ll Cry if I Want To
I’d want to do exactly what I’m doing now. If I can’t choose that, then I would choose to be a photographer.

4. Do you have a service oriented tattoo and if so what is it. If you don’t what would you get? submitted by The Squid’s Accomplice
Oh heck no. That would require someone scraping a needle across my sensitive skin. But if I had to, I just teased Huzzy about this after I saw this question… I teased him (because I would never do it) about getting a stick figure enlisted man in his dress blues saluting a stick figure female officer in khakis. Because it’s funny. And I like to tease Huzzy about it.

On a side note, I’m going to one of my chief’s retirement ceremonies in a few weeks and Huzzy is going with me. We will both be in uniform (dress blues) for the first time together!

5. Imagine a block of time has opened up in your busy day for you to take a class in anything you like. What subject would you choose?  submitted by To The Nth
Easy. A photography class. Hands down. I want to learn how to use my DSLR camera and NOT on the automatic settings. I would looove to eventually photograph homecomings and babies and stuff. Not for profit, really, just for fun and to help out fellow military families.

This week’s questions are:

1. What is your favorite MilSpouse blog (not including Wife of a Sailor who we all love, or your own)? submitted by Our Crazy Life (Wifey note: whaaaat? You can’t say my blog? No fun! LOL, just kidding)

Gosh… I have so many I don’t think it’s fair to choose just one. Check out my long list on the right hand side. You’ll see what I mean!

2. What are your favorite perks about your s/o being deployed (we all know there are perks)? submitted by Ramblings of a Marine Wife
I made an entire post about this around the holidays. You can find it here entitled So Blessed And Thankful My Husband is Deployed.

3. How long did you date your <significant other> before getting engaged? Married? submitted by Utterly Chaotic
Let’s see… we got engaged about 19 1/2 months after we met. And we got married just five weeks after that! For our story, check out the top of my blog and you’ll find a link to it.

4. What do you think your <significant other> would do if s/he wasn’t in the military? submitted by Adventures of M-Squared
Funny, Huzzy and I talked about this the other day. He really wants to be a DNR officer or something of the like. I can see him doing that or security of some sort.

5. If you could talk to the Secretary of (fill in your appropriate branch) what is one suggestion you would like to bring to their attention in order to improve the lives of military families?  submitted by My Life as His (Air Force) Wife
Hmm… what would I say to SECNAV? I would just want everyone to look into how it’s tough to find a job even for those who aren’t in the lower ranks of both officers and enlisted. I certainly don’t qualify for MyCAA and I already have a bachelor’s degree… but it’s tough to find something in my field here without having a 3 hour (minimum) round trip commute to Seattle.

DTS is a pain in my tookus as a reservist. And it will take me years to pay off my uniforms on my reserve pay since officers only get a $400 allowance once for uniforms. That doesn’t even cover one set of NWUs (cammies). I think those are my biggest questions.

I’m not complaining at all and I think in general, things are good. There is always room for improvement anywhere and I think the upper levels are doing what they can.

MilSpouse Friday Fill-in: Sorry, Folks

Hey all…

I’m really sorry about this but I’m not going to be able to do the MFF this week. Right now, I’m in San Diego working the Centennial of Naval Aviation show and I only got three hours sleep last night and even if I go to bed right now, at 7 p.m., I’m going to only get seven hours of sleep because I have to be up at 2 a.m. to leave at 3 a.m. to be on the flight line at 4 a.m. because I’m escorting media.  I just got into my room and still have to unpack and get my uniform ready for tomorrow.

I should have pre-scheduled this, but Chase, my 11-year-old Greyhound, was sick the last few days and I’ve been worrying about him. We aren’t sure what is wrong, but it might be bad enough to have to make some tough decisions. The vet called my husband to give him the blood test results today but wouldn’t leave a message and just said to “call me.” Of course, by the time he got out of work, they had closed. So we won’t know until tomorrow now.

I hate letting people down, but for my sanity, I need to do skip this week. I’m really sorry.

Hope you all have a great weekend.
