So. I got an email today from the insurance company that is going to be doing our home insurance. It contained a brief “here are the documents you asked for” sentence and the attachments. I opened them and they contained a receipt of homeowner’s insurance and laid out everything that was included in it… and had a closing date of 4APR.

Now, that was news to me, so I called the agency and asked. He said he accidentally sent it to me instead of to the mortgage lender and that they had requested it. I asked him if he knew if this was the closing date. He said, “Well, that’s what they asked for, but you probably know more than me” to which I replied, “Apparently you know WAY more than I do.”

So I called the lender, but it was 5:30pm and our account person wasn’t there. However, the manager of the place was and so I asked him if they had heard back from the underwriters after our re-submission to hopefully fulfill all their conditions. He said he hadn’t seen anything however, he had heard that it was approved completely and they had accepted the responses to the conditions. But he didn’t know for sure and gave me our person’s cell number. Of course… she still hasn’t called back and now it’s after 7pm.

So maybe?

In other news, I got an email today about the base job I wanted. It stated:

“Dear Applicant,

Congratulations.  You have been identified amongst the “best qualified” applicants for a vacancy at XXXXX.  Your resume on file with Department of the Navy has been forwarded for selection consideration for the position of XXX…”

Um. Hello hope! And prayer! And nerves! And excitement!

This job would pay about twice as much as what I’ve ever made before. But it’s more than that.

Three years ago when we realized we were going to be homeported here, I said to myself, “Self (’cause that’s what I call me), you should work at the base. I mean, that’s what you’ve been doing all your adult life and that’s what you are doing in the reserves. It’s a government job and it would help your Navy Reserve career. But most of all, it would be fun, exciting and you wouldn’t have to make that 3+ hour roundtrip commute to Seattle.”

I found out last October that this job was going to be opening at SOME point. I was told this by someone on the inside. And then I went to a job fair and met the HR person. She was surprised I knew because it wasn’t announced yet. She told me she’d forward my resume to the hiring person.

Then, I ended up emailing said hiring person several times when I was working in my reserve capacity doing something for the NOSC.

Then, last week, I volunteered to help the USO out with all the families evacuating from Japan and coming in via the Seattle airport. While I was there, through a conversation, I mentioned to the lead volunteer that I was in the Reserves and mentioned what I did in it. She said, oh, then you’d want to meet XX. It was the hiring person/supervisor of the position. I told her I’d *love* to meet him because I had applied for a job with him.

So I met him. Of course, being pro-active, I mentioned to him that I had applied for the job.  And we had a fantastic conversation. Including my work in the Reserves.  And I’m excited because I think he’d be an AWESOME person to work for and with. Awesome.

After our conversation, he said he’d be looking for my resume.

And here I am, a week later, getting this email.

Could it be? Dare I hope? Is our three years of boot-crushing bad luck and crappy situations possibly turning around? In the next few months, might I find myself living in a house WE OWN and having a job that I LOVE that pays an awesome wage? (awesome enough to pay off all but our soon-to-be mortgage and maybe Huzzy’s truck)?

I’m hoping. And hope springs eternal, right?
(speaking of Spring… where is that little witch? She needs to make an appearance)

I’m such a bad blogger. My blog has been filled mostly with MilSpouse Friday Fill-Ins. And that’s not right.

I fell in love with the solarium that is off the kitchen and faces the backyard.

You all know back in January that we put an offer on a house and it was accepted. We are still waiting to close on the house. Yes, still waiting. It seems as though a bank I did business with in the past was remiss in finishing paperwork that would close out the account. When I found this on my credit report back in November (a good example as to why you should check out  your credit reports for FREE each year as mandated by the government!) I immediately started working to get it resolved. It was supposed to be finished last August, so it was a total surprise to me that it wasn’t in November.

It was finally resolved enough to continue with our mortgage on the house (but won’t be complete complete for another 30 or so days. Ugh!). We are supposed to hear back from the underwriters today. I am hoping there aren’t any “conditions” we have to meet because we really need to close Thursday. I have a feeling that if they come back with “conditions” it will be that it has to be completely closed on my credit report… and that will take 30 days to get there.

A small part of the backyard that features a HUGE huckleberry bush, an apple tree, a cherry tree and grapes that drape a swing gazebo.

We’ve already asked for two extensions. I highly doubt they will give us a third. Especially for a month. I bet they would for a few days but not a month.

The other problem continues to be our landlords. We have the house until the 31st, but I’m not sure if they will let us stay beyond that. And even if we close on the 31st, we will need a few days to move out and then CLEAN the house so that it’s so clean they HAVE to give us our deposit back (which we really need because after Chase’s illness, we have no savings anymore).  I’m still not sure of the situation here.

There was another “inspector” that came to the house and took pictures from the outside. I asked him if he could tell me what was going on and he said that he’s called out in one of three situations (he’s not from the bank, but the bank hires him). He said it could be:

  1. They are trying to refinance/re-structure the mortgage.
  2. They are more than 30 days late on payments.
  3. They have filed for bankruptcy.

He said that in the third option he is only told to do a drive-by, not take photos, so that is not it.

Our rec room that will be great for parties. Picture is taken from the wet bar area.

Um, let’s see here. We were told that the house was being sold and the “buyers” ran into some paperwork issues with their bank. Yet, these buyers have never stepped foot inside the house and there has never been an inspection of the house that is required by banks for mortgages. The house has also never been on the MLS, there’s never been a “for sale” sign outside and there has never been a Realtor lock on the door. If they were refinancing a loan, I don’t see why they would tell us they are selling it and have buyers.

So that leaves only the option that they are more than 30 days late on the loan. Which makes sense to me given everything else. I wouldn’t doubt that they are CLOSE to foreclosure or bankruptcy, either. So I’m hoping that they will give us a few extra days (of course we’d pay). Heck, if they are having money problems, I can’t see why not…. that’s cash in their pocket.

In other news, it’s about that time again. Tonight is our Pre-Deployment Meeting. *sigh* It feels like he just came home. But, it’s been nearly three months and in the (non fast-attack) submarine community… that’s it. I feel bad that he’s going to miss another summer. But, we should be on shore duty starting next May, so hopefully he’ll be here to enjoy it next year!

MilSpouse Friday Fill-In(please feel free to use this!)

I love learning more about my fellow MilSpouse bloggers. So I created a weekly meme. Each week, I’ll post a list of questions on Thursday (so you can have your blog ready on Friday). Come back here on Friday (like today!) and enter your blog post into Mr. Linky below so others know who else participated and we can all visit other blogs. Please leave a comment too! And please feel free to use the button above!

This week’s questions are:

1. What is your must have gadget? submitted by Flying High With My Flyboy
It has to be my slow cooker. I looove that thing and cook in it all the time. I’m looking to get a second smaller one for different recipes so I can use two at once! LOL

2. How does your adulthood compare to what you imagined it would be like when you were a little kid? submitted by L to the Third
When I was a little kid, I thought I’d be a veterinarian/pediatrician/princess combination. My husband and I would eat marshmallows for dinner and we’d teleport to tropical places and ride our horses into town. We’d sleep on clouds (actual clouds… remember, I was a kid) and have not a care in the world. Uh… yeah. That sure came true.

3. What is your favorite chocolate recipe?  submitted by Our First Deployment
Hands-down, it’s my Cathedral Cookie recipe. I generally only make it for Christmas.

4. How do you deal with military life when it gets to be to much or to hard? submitted by Combat Boots And Pointe Shoes
I try to stay busy and hang out with friends. I also try to do things and relax.

5. What piece of advice would you give a new Military spouse facing their first deployment?  submitted by The Albrecht Squad
You will have good days and you will have bad days. You will have days you feel fantastic for being so independent and days where you will bawl your eyes out while wishing you could just let the earth swallow you. It’s all normal. Let yourself feel bad at times, but don’t let it consume you. Live your life while your spouse is gone. Enjoy the things you will learn. Stay strong.

Please don’t forget to add your blog link to Mr. Linky below by clicking on it. But also if you are not participating in MilSpouse Friday Fill-In this week, please do not put your link on there… I will remove it. It is unfair to others who do participate.
