MilSpouse Friday Fill-In #7

Success in marriage does not come merely through finding the right mate, but through being the right mate.

MilSpouse Friday Fill-In
(please feel free to use this!)

I love learning more about my fellow MilSpouse bloggers. So I created a weekly meme. Each week, I’ll post a list of questions on Thursday (so you can have your blog ready on Friday). Come back here on Friday (like today!) and enter your blog post into Mr. Linky below so others know who else participated and we can all visit other blogs. Please leave a comment too! And please feel free to use the button above!

(Please forgive me if I can’t get to visit everyone’s blogs the next few weeks. I am just beginning a two month Navy school on the other side of the country… I’m gonna be a bit busy!)

1. What is something you wished you’d learned to do earlier in life?
Um, I wish I’d learned to drive a stick earlier. I feel like SUCH an idiot when I have a hard time starting from a dead stop and going up the hills (there are A LOT here). The other day, I had to put the parking break on and the hazards on and make Huzzy switch with me because an @rsehole rode up on my bumper–literally within inches–and we were at a stoplight going up a steep hill. I am still at the rolling back a foot or so while going… hey, at least I’m not stalling out anymore! (much!)

2. What is your biggest pet peeve with the military?
I hate not being able to rely on timeframes/dates they give us. That annoys me to no end.

3. What tourist attraction near you have you never seen?
I have not gone whale watching, nor have I been to Mt. Rainier.

4. What are you avoiding doing right now?
I am avoiding packing for my two month trip to a Navy school in Maryland (this post is being written a few weeks early).

5. Wine, beer or liquor?
LIQUOR! I only like the first ice-cold sip of beer and I’ve never really gotten into wine much. But make me a mixed drink and… yummy!

Please don’t forget to add your blog link to Mr. Linky below by clicking on it. But also if you are not participating in MilSpouse Friday Fill-In this week, please do not put your link on there… I will remove it. It is unfair to others who do participate.

  1. You are leaps and bounds ahead of me in the stick department! I still remember the first (and only) time I drove one. Well, “drove” is a generous term. I still remember a jerk across the street yelling, “Put in the key…Start the Car…” basically listing his basics of driving. I haven’t tried to drive one since, and I hope I’ll never have to!

  2. Whale watching is so much fun! And I’m with you on learning to drive a stick. When a friend tried to teach me, a cop pulled over to the side of the road (and I thought I was going to get pulled over for stalling every 20 feet or so) and just watched and laughed every time I stalled at the stop sign. No pressure there, right? 😉

  3. We have basically the same answer for #2. It is so hard to plan anything because it seems like the schedule is always up in the air!
Also, I haven’t got the slightest clue how to drive a stick shift, so you are leaps and bounds ahead of me! 🙂

  4. Aw! If you’d tackled that hill, I bet one of two things would’ve happened:
    a) you would have burnt rubber out of there
    b) you would’ve taught that idiot why its not a good idea to ride someone’s rear
I full support both of those options. Don’t give up!

  5. We are going to Boston soon and I hope to go whale watching there! I can’t wait 🙂 I’ve heard it’s super neat…

  6. I remember last year whenever I learned how to drive a stick and a week after I learned J got seriously injured. So of course he couldn’t drive but that didn’t stop him from yelling about how I was stalling out his baby and to not roll back. I had to kick him out of the car to teach myself! After surgery they made him stay too long and he didn’t like it whenever I took longer to get started off of hills and I had a person get right on my bumper all I could think was they are going to buy my car but I didn’t roll back for the first time ever I remember being so excited! I still mess up occasionally after a year of driving it but it’s the best feeling knowing now I never have to worry if I”m left with his car! Thanks so much for this meme and I’m so glad to be back to it!

  7. I’m with you on the stick. DH drives one and while he told me he would teach me to drive it, we’ve only managed to get one lesson in. I can drive ok in parking lot but freak out on the road:)

  8. I completely agree with the military time frames being frustrating. Liquor is definitely the way I go normally when I drink, which is hardly ever but it leaves so much open cause you can make so many concoctions for so many different flavors. Oh, and you have to see Mr. Rainier. Mr. T and I went up there a day or two before we got married. It was beautiful. We tried to get to one of the lodges us there but it was off season so by the time we got up there, they weren’t checking people in so we had to drive half way back down the mountain to this little town where there was a motel. LOL. What an adventure that was. But it was beautiful. Snow everywhere and just breathtaking views.

  9. Hi there! This is my first week participating in this…I love the idea of it!

You gotta love those “timeframes” don’t ya?? =)

Thank you for coming up with this!

  10. My first car was a stick but *I* haven’t had one since. Bryan’s car is a stick but I avoid driving it…LOL! On hills though, the e-brake is our best friend, don’t be afraid to use it.

  11. Thanks for hosting this hon. I love doing these! Theyre fun! I lvoe reading everybody else’s answers and learning more about them as well. I know I missed one Im sorry our computer was down cause of the darn storm. I signed mr linky 🙂 see ya next week 🙂

  12. I am very late with this this week, but I didn’t want to miss a week, so I’m adding my blog late. Hopefully better late than never is ok :-).
