Is the glass half empty, half full, or twice as large as it needs to be?

MilSpouse Friday Fill-In(please feel free to use this!)

I love learning more about my fellow MilSpouse bloggers. So I created a weekly meme. Each week, I’ll post a list of questions on Thursday (so you can have your blog ready on Friday). Come back here on Friday (like today!) and enter your blog post into Mr. Linky below so others know who else participated and we can all visit other blogs. Please leave a comment too! And please feel free to use the button above!

This week’s questions are:

1. If you were a famous movie star, what types of movies would you star in?
Romantic comedies. I love them. Plain and simple.

2. What is a vacation you would like to take if money were no object?
I would like to do an around-the-world trip and hit highlights such as Scotland, England, Ireland, France, Germany, Spain, Russia, Italy, Australia, Japan, China, Argentina and everything in between. (I cheat. I know. It’s my question. Back off 😉 )

3. Did you have pets growing up?
Oh my yes. I was born into a house with a dog. Then we added another. And a cat. And a pony. (Actually, I think the pony came before the cat). And then it went all downhill from there. Cats, dogs, rabbits, hamsters, turtles, horses… I had them all. And at one time… all at once!

4. What do you do for exercise?
Right now, I’m still on light exercise from a shoulder injury that I’m in physical therapy for. However, I do love my aerobic classes and just group classes in general.

5. What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received as a MilSpouse?
Don’t listen to rumors. Don’t get involved in that crap. And don’t, for the love of peace, tell other spouses in your boat/division/etc when you get calls/emails/etc. That invites trouble to begin with.

Please don’t forget to add your blog link to Mr. Linky below by clicking on it. But also if you are not participating in MilSpouse Friday Fill-In this week, please do not put your link on there… I will remove it. It is unfair to others who do participate.

  1. I’ve received advice about not listening to rumors and have passed it on to others, but I’ve never heard about the email/phone call one. That is really good advice. It’s sad to think you can’t share info. like that with others, but who wants to hurt someone’s feelings? I’ll have to pass that on! 🙂

  2. I TOTALLY agree with your advice not to tell other spouses about the communication you are getting with ur spouse, because it is different for everyone!! Our first port call this deployment I found out about on Facebook ( it was a learning curve for both me and the Hubs!)and that was WAY stressfull. Needless to say I avoid Facebook now 🙂

  3. My 6 year old really wants to go to Scotland as well. Argentina was really fun for my family. I didn’t get to go (LOL) BUT they enjoyed getting their rental car damaged (the rental car co purposely hit them so they’d have to pay more money). They switched companies fast when they realized they were scamming. Otherwise, they enjoyed the pottery, food, people and colors.

  4. You know, I haven’t ever actually tried a group exercise class. I think my subconscious fears that such a class would be like High School Gym: The Sequel, but I know that’s probably not the case.

  5. Not telling other spouses when you get any form of communication is really good advice, I have found that even if they aren’t in your boat/division it still causes issues. ps all I could hear when I read 3 was Manya saying “I had a pony!” lol.

  6. I’ve wondered about group classes as well, would they be more or less fun, would I feel pressured to “keep up” or would going at my own pace be easier, would my out-of-shape self fit in, etc.

  7. I hadn’t heard that about keeping quiet about communications, but that definitely makes sense. 🙂 Now, I can add another to my list of “great advice received” 🙂

  8. Oh yes, the rumors advice was one I had received as well. And the issue of telling other spouses when you have received an email or phone call from your sailor was just discussed at our last FRG meeting. I’m the ombudsman for my husband’s command and had to really explain to both the vets and the newbies to deployment how that can upset a spouse and possibly cause unnecessary tension between other families who have not had any contact yet.

  9. I don’t think you cheated on #1…money was no option, after all! And I completely agree with not telling others about emails and such. This patrol happens to be one where I’m not getting many and others are getting more, and mentioning it, and I am a bit jealous and working hard to not be upset with my husband. I know he’s busy and loves me…not playing that game! But it is rough knowing that others are chatting two ways and I’m chatting one way…
