A Loss

If there are no dogs in Heaven, then when I die I want to go where they went.
~Will Rogers

I can’t post much right now. Chase is now at the Rainbow Bridge. I might post more about it later. If you follow me on Twitter, you probably already know what went on.

The Rainbow Bridge (author unknown)

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together….

  1. I’m so sorry for your loss. Our pets are family and I know how devastating it can be when one passes. The Rainbow Bridge is such a lovely piece, I had tears reading it. I’ll be thinking of you ((hugs))

  2. I’m so terribly sorry to hear this, I’ll be thinking of you. Thanks for posting the Rainbow Bridge though, it made me cry and think about the pets I’ve loved and lost.

  3. We just went through this for the first time a little over a month ago – its one of the hardest things we’ve been through. Wishing you comfort & strength…

  4. So sorry. Our dogs over the years have been so good to me–full of unconditional love and comfort through the tough times. How blessed we are to have them be a part of our families even for too short a time.

My mom used to run through the list of my siblings when she wanted me for something–there were six of us, “Rhea! No, I mean, Carol Anne! No I mean, Don!” Often she would call out “Folly” the name of our dalmatian when she wanted me. I took offense until I learned that we categorize our memories for recall. On her deepest subconscious level, my mom considered our dog a true member of the family–one of her children.

  5. I am so sorry for your loss. I know I am going to lose it when ours pass. Dogs just have such a special place in your heart.
