MilSpouse Friday Fill-In(please feel free to use this!)

I love learning more about my fellow MilSpouse bloggers. So I created a weekly meme. Each week, I’ll post a list of questions on Thursday (so you can have your blog ready on Friday). Come back here on Friday (like today!) and enter your blog post into Mr. Linky below so others know who else participated and we can all visit other blogs. Please leave a comment too! And please feel free to use the button above!

This week’s questions are:

1. What are some  of your ideas for staying connected with family…you know, those people we moved thousands of miles away from? submitted by Live it. Love it (or not). Write About It.

For my immediate family, I call them several times a week. That’s about it. It works for us.

2. What’s the most romantic gift you have GIVEN? submitted by Painting My Canvas
Make your own beer kit. Okay, so maybe that wasn’t romantic. I got Huzzy a silver pocketwatch engraved with “For all time” for our first anniversary. That’s about it.

3. Would you encourage your child, if they came to you and wanted to join the military?  submitted by Perfectly Imperfect
No matter what my child wanted to do, I’d encourage them to research it, think long and hard and then, if they still wanted to do it… go for it with everything you have. Just like my parents, I’m going to encourage my children to do the BEST they can at everything they do. I will also strongly STRONGLY encourage them to get a college education. If they want to go into the military, I will encourage them to take advantage of the free college classes you can do through it without even using the GI Bill.

4. What is your least favorite bill to pay and why? submitted by A Little of This, A Little of That
Right now, it is our rent bill because it the way our landlords are treating us/not telling us stuff they should is really annoying me. And if they are in foreclosure (as I suspect they are), it annoys me that our rent is going directly into their pockets instead of toward the mortgage.

5. What is the proudest moment you’ve had as a military spouse?  submitted by Our Okinawa Life
I wasn’t a military spouse at the time, but when Huzzy re-enlisted last time. It was the pivotal re-enlistment where if he did it, when he finished with his contract, he’d be on the other side of the 10 year “hump” and would then finish out his 20 years before retirement. He knew he was going to do it but there was definitely some soul searching for him. He knew what military life was like and we were getting close to getting married, so him doing that was subjecting our future life together to the rigors of “being married to the military.”  And yet, he still made the decision that he needed to serve his country. That made me proud.

Please don’t forget to add your blog link to Mr. Linky below by clicking on it. But also if you are not participating in MilSpouse Friday Fill-In this week, please do not put your link on there… I will remove it. It is unfair to others who do participate.

  1. Love your comment about your proudest moment. As much as it hurts, it does make me proud that my husband chooses to serve when he could get out and be a 9-5 civilian (he has 24 years in now). I think it is admirable that he does what he does because he feels he is making an important contribution to the world. That’s part of what was so attractive to me in the first place! Thanks for the reminder. 🙂

  2. Great list! I think my parents would have enjoyed Facebook as well if it had been around when they were still with us. So easy to post pictures often and the chat feature would have been fun.

    The pocketwatch inscription is beautiful!

  3. oh no I just had a friend who had to move because the same thing happened to her and the house she was renting was actually foreclosed on.

I feel the same way you do about joining the military and it is a wonderful way to get a college education. My husband is just now using his GI bill to get his Masters but the other degrees he was able to get without it.

  4. Rent! Why did I not think of that! Our house is way to small to be paying what we do. And I’m pretty sure you can fight that money-pocketing scheme. The moment they were going into foreclosure, they should’ve told you so you could move. There has to be some law and way to find out and fight it.

  5. Yay! First time doing MilSpouse Friday Fill-In! Can’t wait to do it every Friday from now on! Love your blog! ❤
