Wordless Wednesday: Brought back two, came home with six

Kittens are born with their eyes shut.  They open them in about six days, take a look around, then close them again for the better part of their lives.

Look what we brought back (to foster) after taking the two 9 week old kittens back to the local humane society…

Momma and FIVE 10-day-old babies.

Wook at that widdle face with the widdle tongue... I just wanna cuddle them every minute of the day!

  1. Why did you take your cats back? Please don’t tell me that it’s because you wanted something “little” and “cute”???

  2. Sarah,

Um, I FOSTER kittens for the local humane society. That’s my JOB as a foster mom… to raise them until they are old enough to be spayed/neutered and adopted and then send them back to the humane society to get adopted into loving homes. The nine week old kittens I took back were old enough and ready. I came back with this mother and five newborns who had been abandoned at the shelter. In eight or so weeks,THEY’LL go back too and I’ll get more.

I sure do appreciate people automatically thinking the worst of me when, in fact, I’m saving animals. Sheesh.

  3. I wasn’t thinking the worst of you, I was simply ASKING. I used to work for an animal shelter and so shelter pets have a special place in my heart. I’d really love to talk to you more about this if you wouldn’t mind emailing me? I’m sorry you took my comment so personally, it was really just a question. – Sarah

  4. Oh, gee they are sooo adorable! If I recall correctly, at about 16 days they start to try to “walk,” which means they start by sort of laying on their tummies and paddling their legs until a certain locomotion is achieved. Hubs and I used to call it the “turtle stage,” maybe you’ve seen it before? This passes all too quickly and the little angels will be up on all fours and all over your place before you know it. Keep the camera handy for the hilarity, and hide the breakables!

  5. DJ, I totally will! And I’ve seen the turtle walk before… never heard it called that though, but that’s totally appropriate! LOL

  6. AWWWW!!! I don’t know how you do it as a foster mommy. I don’t think I would be able to give any of the animals back (except for this yet-to-be-housebroken-chiweenie under my chair). My house would be full of animals. Oh wait, it already is…

BTW, how sad am I? I typed “potty trained” at first and had to take a moment to figure out what the correct term was in animalese. Sheesh.

  7. Definitely cute kitties! I hope they all find a home. In the meantime, I think that’s wonderful that you provide the kitties with a comfortable home and provide them with lots of love until the kitties find more permanent accommodations.

    Cheers,
    Kristina
