Stimmy, Stimmy!

“Though no one can go back and make a brand-new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand-new ending.”
~ Carl Bard

I started stims last night. I’m doing 300 Gonal-F and 75 Menopur and decreased my Lupron to 5 units. I was terrified last night because I’ve heard such horrible things about Menopur and how it burns. I seem to be pretty sensitive to medications, so I was pretty nervous about

injecting it into me while it burned. Even our nurse warned us that Menopur can really burn. but she also said not to worry or think we did it wrong if it doesn’t.

As it turned out. it didn’t burn me (at least last night). I did the Lupron first since I’m used to that one and I found a place on my left side (my good side!) that I didn’t even feel the needle going in. So I knew I was in the perfect area since I’ve had to stick myself up to three times to find a place that wasn’t too bad. And I knew that I’d have to get the other two needles close to the first spot since that was a “no hurt area” that night.

I dialed up my Gonal-F pen and did that injection next. The clicking is distracting, but the shot was no big deal. Then it was time for the Menopur. I re-read the directions, pulled up the 1mL of solution, injected it into the vial of powder, and then did the “swirl gently but don’t shake or you’ll get bubbles” finger dance. I inserted the needle (which is 26g needle, so larger than the 28-29g I have for the Lupron and Gonal-F) and didn’t feel anything. I then took a big breath and pushed the plunger. and still didn’t feel a thing.

I realize that I’ll probably feel the burn at some point (most likely tonight since it’s I-hate-you-and-every-needle-hurts right side’s turn to get stuck). But I really, really needed that first night to not be bad as I was so nervous. At least I know it MIGHT NOT hurt each night, instead of it will for sure.

I’m also thinking that the position I’m in when I give the shots might have something to do with whether they hurt more or less. I’ll get back to you after I’ve done some more research (give me a few nights of three shots a night and hopefully I’ll know!).
